Florian and Caitlin headed into London this July to extend their knowledge of the ground-breaking work of renowned voice scientist
Jo Estill,

Complete level 1 and 2 Estill Training Course
offered by by The Voice Explained® Anne Marie Speed, with her associates Paul Farrington and Kiereen Lock. This course offered an over-view Jo Estill's findings in the physiological basis for producing distinct vocal qualities. These three experienced presenters alternated to deliver engaging powerpoint style presentations, and then they also supervised regular break-out group sessions run by excellent Estill interns, as part of the final stages of their training. Every course member got a chance to be coached in producing and combining specific vocal gestures. The aim was to understand experientially how these contribute to the production of different voice qualities such as speech, cry, sob, belt and opera. It was stimulating and inspiring to meet so many singers, singing teachers and speech therapists coming to the course from all around the world. These groups were supportive and fun, since, while every person came with their own background from a wide range of vocal styles and clinical specialisations, all of us were keen to get to the bottom of the biomechanics underpinning safe and expressive voice use.
